Prof. Mangina joined the School of Computer Science in UCD in 2002. She has a PhD from Electronics and Electrical Engineering Department at Strathclyde University in Scotland, an M.Sc. in Artificial Intelligence from the Department of Artificial Intelligence at University of Edinburgh in the UK and an MSc in Agricultural Science from Agricultural University of Athens in Greece. Prof. Mangina has a track record of more than 100 publications in national and international peer reviewed workshops and conferences and international journals and contributes as a committee member for reviews to a number of international working groups, conferences and international journals. Her research profile incorporates active research in the area of different applications of ICT with the main focus of applications in education and assistive technology. Prof. Mangina has experience in contractual, financial and administrative management aspects based on her academic career and project management experience both at national and European level since 2002. Prof. Mangina has successfully led a number of related national and international projects (Higher Education Authority Targeted Initiative; Higher Education Authority Springboard Initiative; FP7 COBWEB; Erasmus, Leonardo TOI, EBDIG-WFSV; UCD – Seed Funding Scheme; Irish Research Council (IRC); Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions (MSCA) Innovative Training Networks (ITN) H2020-MSCA-ITN-2014; Science Foundation Ireland (Funded Investigator); EC Digital Single Market; Erasmus+ Strategic Partnership for School Education (KA2). The involvement of Dr Mangina in National and International Workgroups has been achieved through the active participation in the EU group of “Scientific Digital Repositories”, and through the membership in the IEEE Computer Science Community. During 2013 Dr Mangina has been involved in the quality review of online courses and has been certified as a Quality Matters (QM) reviewer, to be able to apply the QM Rubric for online provided courses worldwide. She has extensive knowledge in terms of managing and supervising applied Artificial Intelligence projects, and her current research in virtual/augmented learning environments will drive the ICT sector in education towards marketable innovative actions. Her research interests and contributions are in the areas of: e-learning; Learning Management Systems; educational data analytics; Virtual Learning Environments; Mobile e-learning; Big Data; Educational modelling and simulations; Internet of Things; Virtual Reality (VR) hardware evaluation and Augmented Reality (AR) software for education outside the classroom. In 2014 Prof. Mangina was certified in Robotics Academic Training from Carnegie Mellon University Robotics Lab.
