The School of Computer Science at the University College Dublin is one of the subcontracted partners for the external trials of the SlideWiki platform. In this interview, we feature Ms.Nancy Pyrini, Research Assistant at the School of Computer Science at the University College Dublin and we exchange on her experience with the SlideWiki trials and platform, as well as the plans of her university in terms of using OER, OCW and SlideWiki beyond the duration of the trials.
- SlideWiki, an EU-funded project, enables the collaborative creation of free teaching and learning materials. These include, for instance, slide sets, lecture notes and course content. What is special about this platform?
What is special about the SlideWiki platform is the fact that it covers a variety of subjects and features such as the “Fork” feature for the creation of copies of existing decks, the “Append” feature to embed a set of slides as a sub-deck and the multilingual environment.
Moreover in SlideWiki there are no prerequisites for the contribution and sharing of content and users have the possibility to share decks via social media or email.
The SlideWiki platform is unique in terms of its interaction with other learners with the comments on the decks and slides and the possibility that it offers to download decks in PDF, ePub or SCORM format.
- According to your opinion, which are the target groups that can best benefit from using the SlideWiki platform?
I think that the target groups that can best benefit from using the SlideWiki platform are students of all educational levels and educators.
- How do you evaluate the importance of Open Course Ware and Open Educational Resources for all educational levels?
I evaluate the importance of Open Course Ware and Open Educational Resources for all educational levels as extremely important in terms of the enormous financial savings especially for vulnerable populations.
- How does your organization plan to use the SlideWiki platform beyond the duration of the project?
My organization plans to use the SlideWiki platform beyond the duration of the project in order to support the collaboration of educational staff for the production of learning material, as well as in order to suggest educational resources to students.
