The University of Sousse in Tunisia is one of the subcontracted partners for the external trials of the SlideWiki platform. In this interview, we feature Prof. Ouajdi Korbaa and we exchange on his experience with the SlideWiki trials and platform, as well as the plans of his university in terms of using OER, OCW and SlideWiki beyond the duration of the trials.
- SlideWiki, an EU-funded project, enables the collaborative creation of free teaching and learning materials. These include, for instance, slide sets, lecture notes and course content. What is special about this platform?
This platform is a new way to create content for lectures. The collaborative aspect is interesting and challenging mainly with students’ interaction.
- According to your opinion, which are the target groups that can best benefit from using the SlideWiki platform?
I think that SlideWiki platform is suitable for all kinds of lecture or student levels but it can give its best efficiency with graduate and doctoral students because the number of students is limited, they have enough maturity to discuss the content and finally because the lectures in these level requires more interaction et collaboration with the students.
- How do you evaluate the importance of Open Course Ware and Open Educational Resources for all educational levels?
Our current students belong to a “new” generation of connected students to the digital content. The place of the “wise professor” having THE knowledge is quite obsolete. Open courses shouldn’t be concurrent of the lectures but a complement mainly with the continuous lectures duration reduction and the explosion of the technologies and applications (TIC lectures). Therefore, the open courses and open resources are getting more and more importance in the students training. In addition, open resources allow students to deepen their knowledge with a self-learning.
- How does your organization plan to use the SlideWiki platform beyond the duration of the project?
The produced content will be permanently used as complement to the classical lecture. Students attend to the lecture than they use the SlideWiki content as a complement to fix the acquired knowledge and enrich it further and to comment the slides giving their feedback.
