On March 9th, the Open University is organising a workshop at the Open Education Global 2017 Conference, which will take place in Cape Town, South Africa. The Open Education Global Conference is a major annual event for the international open education community. It is where representatives from across the world meets to discuss, plan, reflect, collaborate, innovate and celebrate openness in education. It is organised by the Open Education Consortium, formerly known as the OpenCourseWare Consortium. The conference will take place at the Cape Town International Convention Center, near the picturesque Victoria and Alfred Waterfront.
This year’s Open Education Global Conference marks the 10 year anniversary of the Cape Town Open Education Declaration. 2017 actually marks several important milestones in Open Education, including the 15 year anniversary of the term “Open Educational Resources” and the 5 year anniversary of the Paris OER Declaration. The conference will therefore offer the opportunity to celebrate and reflect on these and other achievements, reconnect with colleagues and friends, and learn about new ideas and initiatives. The Open Education Awards for Excellence will also be presented during the conference. These awards recognize distinctive open education projects, technological innovations, notable open courses, and exemplary leaders in Open Education worldwide.
The workshop will be conducted as a hands-on session, where participants will be able to try the new SlideWiki platform and provide their feedback via a questionnaire and a plenary discussion session. The Open University is organising this event as part of collecting feedback from the open education community in WP9 of the SlideWiki project. As part of this initiative, the Open University will also deliver a similar event at the OER17 conference in April 2017. More such events will take place in 2017 and 2018 in order to raise awareness about the redesigned SlideWiki platform and collect feedback that will further drive the development of the platform.
